I have a metal control panel on my cabinet and it is only covered with contact paper at the moment. It works great and it is easy to apply new contact paper or lexan later if it is really needed.

: I am building a desktop arcade controller and have decided to go the contact paper route for covering the panel. A lot of people recommend Lexan for covering the surface of the controller.

: I was wondering if this is really required? The contact paper should be waterproof and the sides of the panel wouldn't be protected anyway. I have had contact paper on the edges of my desk at home for over 10 years with no problems.

: I don't mind adding the Lexan if it is really helpful, but it will require additional effort and cost. (Mainly, the panel mount LED's only have 1/4 inch of thread, so I will have to counterbore them real close if they have to clear 0.10 inch of Lexan too!)

: Your feedback will be appreciated!!!

: Thanks
