Question about 8 way optical rotary joystic and KE72-T

Is it possible to hook up the two optical joystics using the trackball interface that comes with the Hangstrom KE72-T instaed of buying the Happs trackball interface kit.

I was thinking of using the optical joystics on my main control panel - Do these feel OK with non Ikari Warrior type games? (e.g. can you play SFII or MK decently using the rotatable joysticks?)
