Why convert? Wood is prety cheap. Build one from scratch! :) I would. Some of the sitdowns are pretty uncomfortable... You could make a really sweet design w/ a nice bucket seat, surround speaker enclosures, subwoffer under the seat, and much more... Could even mount a force feedback wheel onto it.
When I build mine (some year... :) I want to make the cabinet move via the wheel direction, using a dryer motor or something like that. :)
