They have a lot of alternative control settings, more than I expected when I first started using MAME, and now, it's very flexible.

: Would they be open to such suggestions as these, or do they consider it trivial as long as the function works with a 'keyboard' and the job is considered done? It would be nice to have some sort of organized request list of all these little things so they can be properly presented with the reasons and observations, to make it seem like a worthwhile set of suggestions. I know there's been a few things that I'd like to suggest but I forget now, since I didn't write them anywhere.

: One thing I just thought of, for driving games, I don't really like the single toggle key for shifting hi to lo, I'd like to have 2 distinct inputs so I can use a real shifter in a cabinet and know based on its position up or down, if I'm in hi or low gear. For now it would just be a shifter sitting there but hi/lo means nothing, you just toggle it and look at the bottom of the screen to see what gear you're in, which is awkward! Why did they do it with a single toggle key??

In the game, press tab, and for the hi/lo, hit enter and press one key for hi/lo, then press enter again, and select another key. The display will read Hi/LO or . Then the up shift can be key one, and the downshift can be key 2. The PC will report a toggle, hi/lo, and you will get the desired effect in the game using the shifter.
