I would say after considering the points you mentioned that the "ultimate" button would be in-between. Unfortunately, I've yet to find such a thing so I use both leaf-switch buttons and some microswitch buttons and program them accordingly for each game.

Given the choice of either/or I'd personally go with the softer but more "vague" leaf-switch button.
