When I first started getting on the web, one of the first things I heard about was www.ffly.com (it later became www.firefly.com), this neat site, that when you entered in what movies you liked/disliked, it would make sugestions of what you might like, based on what people who liked most of the same things. You had to pick a login name, I had no I idea what to type in, so I typed in my Nickname, Tom (short for Thomas ;) It retorted that Tom was already used, however the next numbered tom is Tom61. So, I chose that.
A little while later I found out about Hotmail, since I was loging on at the library, I had no email. Hotmail didn't make suggestions about names, so when I tryed Tom it just said that it was already used, so I tryed Tom61, it worked.
I've never been able to think of a better one, so I've stuck with Tom61.
I think this happened in 93 or 94, when the web was still new.
