You are absolutly right. The problem is that I already have this old motherboard. Changing to PIII would require a new motherboard (and I would then probably go for a socket A mb and an AMD processor)... The practical speed limit on my old card is 450 mz. A AMD K6-3 450 would be perfect (yes they are pin compatible and do have a better cache) but you can't buy them in Sweden any more!!! Arggg, probably have to buy a new mb, processor and memory :( And an AT power supply...

: I would go for the PIII over the K6-2.

: I ran some tests between a K6-2 350 and a Pentium II 233. The PII beat out the K6-2 on games such as Mortal Kombat and Smash TV by a noticeable margin. I can only imagine that a PIII will leave an even larger gap between itself and the K6-2.

: I remember reading that the K6-2 does not have that good of a cache and memory architecture, which is why it is slower than Intel chips of similar and slightly higher clock speeds. The K6-3 is slightly better, and I believe it is pin compatible with the K6-2.

: So my order of CPUs (for you) would be PIII, K6-3, then K6-2.
