Don't limit yourself to the "spacebar" = powerup thing. On all ATX MBs, you have to close a contact to power the board up anyway, so you might as well do what I did and connnect this to a button (arcade style) on the outside of the cabinet (or wherever). Then wire up a relay to one of the PC Power supply connectors (can easily find 12VDC relay at RS), and use the relay to switch 120VAC so you can power up your monitor and marquee lights, and speakers at the same time...cool. Then, when you use soft-shutdown to power the MB down, all the other things shut down at the same time...way cool.
