Yeah I think a sort of shift feature would be needed for that, unless you don't mind adding credits to more than one player at a time, like wire coin1 and coin3 to the first slot and coin2 and coin4 both to the second slot, then a quarter in slot 1 adds a credit to both player 1 and 3...but this would interfer with games like Gauntlet or Xenophobe where a quarter is actual health, not a credit...

So the shift feature could either be something like the I-Pac method, if I understand it correctly, or you can do some creative wiring to a (shift) switch to press while inserting coins to re-route the coin switch to the alternate keyboard coin input...

You would need a single pole double throw type switch in my rough thoughts. You would have the common ground of course taking care of one of the two switch contacts for all switches/keyboard inputs in question, then the "live" wire....you take the non-ground wire from the coin mech switch , and instead of running it straight to the keyboard encoder's coin input, run it to the middle (common) contact on the single pole double throw switch. I guess a double pole double throw switch could work, just ignoring the second set of contacts.
Then on the switch, you run each of the other 2 wires to the coin inputs on the keyboard encoder. Then based on whether the switch is up or down, you route the coin mech switch to keyboard coin input 1 or keyboard coin input 3, etc.

If requested I could illustrate that concept with a little diagram if it's sounding like something feasible, the whole shift button idea. It's all I can think of to multiplex the 2 slots.
