Well, you don't need more than, say, 4mb of RAM on a card... MAME doesn't run at an especially high resolution nor does it generally use lots of colors. If you have enough RAM (128MB), processor speed will generally be the determining factor in how fast your games run. Not your video card. The only reason to go with a special or not-cheap video card is support for fixed frequencies.
