Yes it is for taking the static charge from the rollers. I talked to happ when I installed mine and they said it's mostly for hot and dry environments where the static would more likly be present. I just connected mine to one of the screws on my control panel. I'm sure it would be fine too if you removed it, but I just wanted to make sure.

: Since I'm not the electrical wizard that I should be, I've got a question for y'all: That grounding wire on Happ's trackball...what does it get grounded TO? I'd just like to avoid frying anything out. Thanks!
