I have found what I believe to be the absolute best combination, after a LOT of trial and error.

I am using a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 with the MON-ARC driver, and VSYNCmame on a 25 inch 15KHZ monitor. ALL games in mame are supported and work flawlessly. All of the nameco and most of the vertical games must be rotated, but all work perfectly, even those in 16 bit color and vector games (with the beam width set at 1.5)
Some games require size hints ie -384x224 to come up properly, but all work fine.
I have setup a rotating monitor, which was a real pain with a 25 inch! I would rather not rotate it, but that is the only way (I can find) to achieve *Perfect* vertical games.
