: I'm looking at buying a Wells-Garden monitor for a arcade cabinet.

: They have a few types available, and it's come down two the following two choices.

: U3100 27"
: D9200 27"

: The D9200 is has digital on screen control settings.

: Both have the option to hook up direct to the PC video card.

: The resolution available from the monitors is mid res ie 640 X 480 max.

: The questions:

: Has anyone tried anyone of the monitors above, if so which one, and what do you think?

I have a 27" WG U3000. I have been fairly pleased with it except that it is a bit expensive ($699 from Happ) It definitely has that pleasing arcade fuziness.

: Is the resolution OK for all emulated & future emulated games? I just do not want so spend a fortune to buy the monitor, and realise a game that is to be emulated needs greater resolution? Well-Garden has a monitor series D9100 that offers hir res (ie 1240 x 1200 (from memory), but maximum monitor size currently available is a 19".

The U3000 supports up to 640x480 non-interlaced. This resolution is decent for vector games, especially with the monitor's fuziness which smooths the lines out a bit. The only games I can think of that could use more res are PC games such as Quake. Most old arcade games are very low res such as 240x256. Keep in mind that the higher the res of the monitor, the finer the dot pitch it will have and subsequently, the less "arcade look" it will have.

: What is the maximum current resolution of a game required? What about a game that has not been emulated?

: About the D200 (if any one has one). Does the monitor settings (configuration) auto save so that when the monitor has no power (ie switched off) still keep the settings?

: Anyones opinion of the monitors would be kindly appreciated.
