: Hello! I would like to build my own arcade joystick or buy one of those arcade joysticks made with first class components. Everybody talks about happs components, so I should trust the quality of these. However, I wouldn't like to spend my money in a stick that I dislike. I had never had the chance to try happs sticks, and I would like you to tell me if this kind of controls can be found in any modern arcade cabinet, so that I can try before I buy. Buttons are not a problem. Most of the microswitched buttons I have tried are ok. Sticks however depends on personal taste. I dislike those sticks with a long range of movement. I need a stick that is very precise and with a high strengh to return the stick to the central position. I love those sticks on machines from the late eighties. It's much better to play arcades like 1942 with these than with those modern sticks with a coloured ball. Maybe there's a tendency to make sticks more loosen because they work better with other kind of games. Maybe I'm wrong with my decission and such a stiff stick is not appropriate for a general usage. If there's an expert with these issues, please tell me. My interest are 2d platform, shooters, and 2d and 3d fighting games. Finally, have you noticed what I have?: I have the feeling that modern arcade cabinets lacks the quality of the old ones. I have tried some machines at the arcades recently and sticks, buttons and the cabinet itself is like cheaper and made with worse materials like plastic etc. Moreover, I can't understand why on earth they use those enormous flat screens that display a awful imagen quality, in comparison with 25 and 29' crt screens.
