: Hello,

: Just wondering about rotary joysticks. I love all the Ikari type games, and was not sure to get rotary's or Super Joysticks. I can play the Ikari games with my pantherxl joystick, but want the real experience. However, I haven't played an Ikari with two good joysticks in years. I was wondering if the rotary's held up well and worked as well as super's for regular games.

You have three options on IKARI Joysticks (and I haven't personally tried any of them). Video Connection sells the original (yellow knob) IKARI joystick for $9.95 and Druin sells a rotary interface for approximately $60.00. This is reviewed by Dr. D (?) further down the msg board.

Happ sells the rotary joysticks for $35.95, which would also work with Druin's interface.

Happ also sells an optical rotary joystick for 39.95, which would interface through the Opti-Pac Plus (when available), the Hagstrom ME4, or the Happs Serial or USB interface.

As far as feel and quality, the Happs opticals are supposed to be identical to the Supers with an optical interface attached to the bottom. However, they don't have the click-click feel of the original IKARI sticks.

I'm not sure how the original SNK Ikari sticks or the Happs mechanical rotaries would work for regular play. You maybe could ask either DR. D or Druin.
