after much research and asking this very same question, i opted to go with a 19in computer moniter for my mame cab. It seems that the games don't look quite as well on the TV, you also need a video card with tv-out option. I still think it's a matter of personal preference. here is a link to check out from a guy who built a cabinet with a 25" television. he also has some screenshots from games running on the tv.
