If we need to do our own custom utility file, assuming a front end or MAME itself can't be used to show all these control panel shots and interpreted data file text, why don't we actually start on some little experimental utility even just to support 3 games and use all info obtained in our own test data files, just manually enter all the control maps and game info to show...get some control picture, and test the theory out to see how we like the feature and if it can easily be integrated between MAME and front ends as we know them.

I think this would make a good open source project too. None of that "It's mine, I wrote it, why should I share it?" type stuff. It's for the benefit of everyone, like not destroying a classic cabinet. We're in it together and without sharing info there's a lot of stuff none of us would even have, like instructions on building cabinets properly, and all our neat little hardware tricks and utilities.
