If we had the MAME development incorporating the idea and having the control data printed out upon commandline request, then they could also just as easily make it go dig out the custom remaps for each game, since they are done in the MAME config menu and stored in MAME, hence accessible from within MAME if someone adds the feature!

The command would on-the-fly go and look up the actual control mappings, not just defaults set by MAME...

If such a utility were manually implemented with this intermediate utility program fictionally thought of, it too surely could go look at the mame config and see any custom remaps...it can be done.
