Although you don't want to drill new holes in the wood above the monitor, you should really take it into consideration.

First off, it's where the majority of factory-made cabinets contain the speakers. They sound good in there, since the
sound sort of deflects and reverbs off of the glass and cabinet walls.

Second, there's an easy way to do it where you won't have to repaint the top after drilling, or even worry about precision
drilling or cutting.

What you'll do is cut two holes into the top board of your cabinet. Make sure the holes are large enough that the speaker
isn't covered, but small enough that the speaker can 'rest' on the board and not fall through. BTW, these holes don't have to look
good or very precise at all -- We'll be covering them up with some standard speaker grills available at Radio Shack.

Now that you have these holes cut out, you need a way to secure the speakers to the top. I took four 'L' Shaped brackets for each
speaker, and screwed one in on each side of the speaker. The only direction the speaker can move is up, and I doubt we'll ever be turning
this cabinet of yours upside down. :)

All you need now are these 4" speaker grills available at Radio Shack. They are the typ that protrude about 1/4" of an inch. When you get
the grill home and pop it open, you'll see that you actually screw on this metal 'anchor' to the wood and not the grill itself. Once you
have those metal anchors screwed into place, you simply 'snap on' the grills. It looks good, and you could be as sloppy as you wanna be when
making the holes. :)

: My cabinet is almost completely done. All that is left is the marquee [which I'm currently working on tent. titled "Game Station"] and a place to put my speakers.

: I'm considering putting the speakers to the left/right behind the marquee with slits cut in the plexiglass or speaker grill covers attached to the marquee. I've seem some neogeo cabinets with a similar design. But I think it it would look kinda gay.
: I'm also entertaining the idea of mounting the speakers extrnally next to the marquee, but I'm not too sure about this either.
: I really don't want to drill new holes in the wood above the monitor either.

: Any other ideas? It's an old Berzerk cabinet and the speakers are labtec satellites with sub woofer. They are really made to just sit on a table, but i'll take them apart and screw them to the cabinet.

: Thanks in advance for any ideas!
