MS-DOS application (Win95) - NEED HELP!!

Here's a weird problem. Hope you all can help. One of the programs I use, (Tempest 2000 DOS) I set up with an icon to reboot the PC in MS-DOS mode and run, then return to Windows when the game is done. It worked flawlessly, then one day, when I exited the game, it rebooted like always, but instead of saying the usual (ENTER TO GO TO WINDOWS, ESC TO CONTINUE WITH MS-DOS BASED PROGRAM) or something very similar, it just re-booted back into the DOS program.

I then saw that the Autoexec.bat is modified for the DOS program, and while it warns not to tamper with it, I got fed up and REMmed out the commands for the DOS program.

I now get the (escape to quit the DOS program), etc. etc. message, but when I choose to quit the program and go back to windows, it reboots, and gives me the message again. There's no getting out of this loop. I need to get back to windows. I think I can get to safe mode, but I have nothing there to help me. I hope anyone can help here.
