That’s very interesting... If you removed 8mb from the L= line you'd use 57344, and if that gives you the "can't allocate XXXmb of memory" then I'm thinking that everyone that wants to play larger roms like KOF9x will need more than 64mb of physical memory. You may need to use the swap file, but that would yield pour performance.

I believe the error message you’re getting is that CWSDPMI cannot use 32mb of memory. That was usually caused by not having NOEMS, NOVCPI, and the L= parameter. You need all three of those or you cannot use emm386 with CWSDPMI.

I would try this as a test...

If your using Windoze 9x (DOS) then choose step by step startup...

Load only Himem.sys and Dos=High,UMB,AUTO

nothing else... In your mame directory make sure you have CWSDPMI, run the game that’s giving you problems (without sound) and see if it loads. If it does than your configuration is using up too much memory for that game.

I'm using a 128mb dimm, and I haven't had one problem with ANY game or EMU... including the old dos games like (Quake, Heretic, Out of this World, ect) with the same DOS setup.

Let me know if that worked for you... You may also see what the highest number you can use for emm386's L= line. Maybe taking 2 or 8 off of 65536 would work...
