Marquee/Speaker placement ??

My cabinet is almost completely done. All that is left is the marquee [which I'm currently working on tent. titled "Game Station"] and a place to put my speakers.

I'm considering putting the speakers to the left/right behind the marquee with slits cut in the plexiglass or speaker grill covers attached to the marquee. I've seem some neogeo cabinets with a similar design. But I think it it would look kinda gay.
I'm also entertaining the idea of mounting the speakers extrnally next to the marquee, but I'm not too sure about this either.
I really don't want to drill new holes in the wood above the monitor either.

Any other ideas? It's an old Berzerk cabinet and the speakers are labtec satellites with sub woofer. They are really made to just sit on a table, but i'll take them apart and screw them to the cabinet.
