Multiple spinners?

I just purchased the Atari Arcade Classics, which aside
from games I already have in MAME, also has the legendary
Pong! It really is a great emulation, exactly like I
remember (not that I was old enough to use one when they
first came out), and it actually works with a mouse. Of
course, that only works for one player. I've seen some
posts about multiple mouses (mice?) on one computer, but
getting them to operate independantly seems to be a
problem. It occurred to me that it shouldn't be too
hard to take a mouse, open it up, and then direct each
axis to a different spinner, as a mouse has two that can
be used at the same time.
This would take someone good at electronics to figure
this out, but I thought I would suggest it in case
anyone would like to give it a shot. I'd do it myself,
but I tried making a playstation to PC adapter with the
direct pad pro, spent a week and $100, and totally
failed.
Of course, the software would have to be written to take
advantage of this, which might require a patch to the
Atari Arcade, but certainly it could be worked into MAME.
Any takers?
