I guess I wasn't very clear after looking at my original post. I was tired. :)

I was having trouble with the serial connection in windows and couldn't figure it out for awhile.
I first thought it was the KE72, then maybe software, then finally my motherboard, ugh.

Whenever I tried to program the KE72 while in Win98 it would seem to program OK except the keyboard and encoder would then completely hang until the system was powered off and on again.

I now know this to be a problem with Win98 that is easily fixed. Windows doesn't initialize the port properly on systems that support ACPI. This only affects certain dos applications and only on the first try. After that the port is OK, but of course this is too late if your keyboard has locked up. :P

The solution is to edit the resistry value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VCOMM

Change the value of "EnablePowerManagement" from 1 to 0. This will allow you to program the KE72 properly.
