: I am trying to get MAME to see the ROMs on my hard drive rather than CD if a game gets old. Anyone have any suggestions?

This was actually the question I had in mind...I was wondering if I burned a few cds with the full romset, could I just accumulate the new and updated old sets on a hard drive directory and have them get priority notice in MAME.
One possible way I can think might work, when people add more than one drive or directory to their list in the rompath, will MAME look at them sequentially, like if you run pacman, and your rompath list is C: D: E: will it look starting in C: and stop when it finds it? If so it should work to put the hard drive path with the newest roms first and then for the older roms MAME might eventually find them down the rom path chain?
