: I use a laptop to play emulator games and have had problems using DOS MAME. I thought it was because of incompatible screen modes, but never had the time to really confirm this. I've just used MAME32. Also, Scitech Display Doctor makes my laptop crash, so I've had a problem using some vesa modes. Also, I remember having problems with sound using DOS emulators. These might be things you want to check on.
The "Micro-Cade" was built by me. I also had issues with video modes on flat panel displays. I work in the industrial control field and the display adapter I am using was actually designed by our hardware group. We tweaked the video BIOS to enable what C&T reffer to as "Mode Stretching" It basicallly allows for images of lower resolution than the native (640x480) to stretch out to fill the screen. Its based on the C&T 65550 chipset. Once I run DOS display doctro I have upwords of 50 available video modes. Typically I set it to run at 320X240. NeoGeo stuff runns by default at 640X480 on this hardware. I did originally have problems with the "auto" video mode setting in ORCADEOS front end. I also have run DOS MAME on a laptop with marginal success.
