IPAC Question - Single Button for Enter

I've got an IPAC on order that I want to use to replace my keyboard hack, but I think I may have just hit a problem whilst thinking through my new design.

One of the things I do at the moment is have a single button for Enter so that when I exit to Mame32 I can select a game with the joystick and then hit this button to load it up. This and a few other "special" buttons (Pause, ESC etc) are tucked out of view at the rear of the panel, but easily reached.

I really like this set-up but have just read that the IPAC only allows these keys via shift functions (i.e. whilst holding down Player 1 start). Is there any way to wire my panel or the IPAC to allow a single button for these keys?

For example, could I just have player one tied to ground permanently and map another key (player 2 button 8 for example) as Player 1 start? If I did this, would I get the IPAC pass the Power on self test or would I get a keyboard error (as a key would appear "stuck"). I guess I'd also have to map the other shiftable keys, which is a shame as one of the things I wanted the IPAC for was to avoid having to do so much remapping.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated, and keep up the good work Cabsters!
