This is a pretty good idea, particularly for a MAME cabinet. My 25" Mame cabinet was a generic Jamma cab that was done completely in blue melamine. It doesn't dent or ding like painted cabs, although if you get a good enough hit, it'll crack...and you have to replace the entire piece to fix that, as opposed to patching a small area.

The only other hindrance to using melamine is that most people don't have the type of router needed to cut the piece to exactly match the sides they are trying to cover. With the right tools, this is a breeze. It makes a really clean looking cab. Without the right tools, it's probably gonna look half-assed.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

: I am building a cabinet, I everyone is talking about
: painting their cab. I don't understand why people don't
: just use melamine board. This is counter top like material. It is available in black, white or gray, can
: be found at any home depot. After you factor in primer, paint, brushes, labour, etc it actually is cheaper than plywood. Not to mention it looks a helluva lot better. I was just wondering if anyone else
: had thought of this idea, it seems pretty obvious.
