BiG^DoG,

I plan on doing my wiring in the next week or two, so you're forcing me to work through it right now! Damn you! :)

Here's what I think I plan on doing: My KE72 will *not* be inside the actual control panel box, which will facilitate the removal and replacement of the control panel.

Actually, here's the layout:
Inside the control panel, I'll use 22AWG wiring to wire up the buttons and joysticks. The wiring from the buttons and joysticks inside the control panel will end up being in a couple of DB25 connectors. So basically, I could detach the control panel and hold it up, and there would be a couple of wire bunches with DB25s on the ends of them dangling down. The wire bunches will obviously be be long enough to reach to wherever in the cab that I have the KE72 mounted.

I'll probably have terminal blocks inside the control panel (in between the buttons and joysticks on one end and the DB25s on the other end of the wiring) just to clean it up a bit.

The DB25 coming out of the control panel will plug into DB25s that are coming out of the KE72 encoder. Here's where the IDE ribbon comes into play.

The KE72 will have a IDE ribbon (I'll only need 1...I think) that's plugged right into the pin headers. I'll snip the head off of the other end of the IDE ribbon and wire those connections up to terminal blocks. From the terminal blocks, I'll have yet another pair of wire bunches with DB25s on the end of them...these are the DB25s that will connect to the DB25s coming from the control panel.

I hope that makes sense. If not, I'll make sure to take pictures as I wire mine up!
