Brains Printer Hardware circuit works great, but I have a Asus p2-99 motherboard that was switching on the monitor on bootup. To over come this I had to install a second LPT port to stop the monitor switching on for 5 seconds at bootup.
Works good now I haven't checked if I have the incorrect wire on pin 11 but it still works if it was the incorrect pin (thanks Patrik for that one)
This is a picture of my circuit board, top picture on the right hand side, the one with the LEDs in it

If your using VBE in Advance MAME Andrea has written a small program to switch this circuit on. Should be in the next release.

: PC2JAMMA project - PRINTER HARDWARE - RELAY VERSION
: Hi John, ( and everyone else also…. )
: To build the printer hardware just order the IC's listed on the PC 2 JAMMA project page, and I choosed the CMOS ICversion. I think they are called 74 HC XX instead…
:
: And for the transistor, the one that Brian have listed has been replaced by another transitor ( they work the same way )
:
: NOTE: ( in the PC2JAMMA HTML text there is an minor error ?… )
: 'Strobe' (pin 1)
: 'Data bit 7' (pin 9)
: 'Acknowledge' (pin 12)
: 'Busy' (pin 11) (Should be PIN 10)
: 'Ground' (pin 25)
: When I checked the pin config in my manual I saw that the 'Acknowledge' should be PIN 10 and if you look close on the picture, you can see that brian have pin 10 there.
:
: And for the relay, I chosed a 120-250V, 5 AMP realy, you can more or less chose what ever you want.
: But I think a 120v-250V, 5-10AMP, 12V should do it…
:
: And when you have built everything, test it with the software that Brian has on his page " MONTEST "
: " DO NOT CONNECT THE 120/240V when you test it , JUST IN CASE "
: TAKE YOUR TIME AND YOU WILL MANAGE TO BUILD IT.
:
: Soon as I get my hands on a digitalcamera I will take some photos….
