It is actually only necessary to have:
Right = Right Down
Left = Left Up
Up = Up Right
Down = Down Left
As suggested by 'Just Michael' in this Forum.
No need for the 'exclusion' keys. For example, with the configuration detailed above, hitting the UP key alone will produce no movement at all. (which is good, for Q-Bert)
