Nothing wrong with your list of "right reasons", I find them all valid but as I pointed out – I find it nice with shift key support implemented in the interface circuitry even if the functionality is implemented in MAME. I-PAC can be used with other emulators with no built in shift key functionality...

: One good solution is the I-PAC where the shift key support is implemented in the interface circuit.

: Shift key support in the I-PAC is really not a selling point. Since R36B13 all of the shift functions of the I-PAC could be assigned through the MAME input screens regardless of what encoder you were using.

: I think the I-PAC is a great product and the above statement was not true when the product was first developed. I just constantly see on this board people recommending the I-PAC to reduce the number of buttons on a panel, when you could do this with any other option.

: The strengths of the I-PAC are:

: 1. Faster than a keyboard hack circuit and designed for MAME.
: 2. Price.
: 3. Screw terminals for solderless hook-up of buttons.
: 4. 28 control inputs with no blocking
: 5. Daisy-chainable for 55 independent inputs
: 6. common ground connection for easy hookup.
: 7. easy hookup of LED for Caps Lock, etc.
: 8. USB or PC/AT supported, and
: 9. especially, the knowledge and support of Andy Warne.

: Sorry to be such a long post, but I thought it was important to recommend a product for the right reasons.
