I did it too and loved it. Much better than with a joystick. Although my scores STILL suck. I even owned an Asteroids as a teenager. The chicks really liked it too! :)
: I did it last night and it worked great! My Asteroids scores where a lot higher than normal. Just like the good old days... Only problem I have is my buttons are too far apart. When I rebuild my control panel I will definitely be bringing them in closer.
