: Because man, that would mean that parents actually watch over their kids and take responsibility for them. Your metaphor is a little off though my friend. Take for example a gun: I see nothing wrong with a parent owning a gun but to leave the thing unlocked so that a child could access it is a terrible thing. Censorship needs to be dealt with somehow. There is a lot of stuff out there that young people shouldn't see. There should be a compromise between parents and filmmakers, media, software developers, etc. to make sure inappropriate stuff does not reach children. I don't think that a feature like the one mentioned would be too hard to implement. Yes it is parents who are mainly responsible for censorship but it wouldn't kill anyone to help a little, since it is often others who make it harder and harder for parents to do this. If Mame emulates games that are inappropriate for young children, it wouldn't kill them to add a feature to make these games censorable. No, its not their responsibility, but doesn't everyone want this world to be safe for children?

Mame is about accurate documentation of the hardware. I doubt Mame devs would add something to alter the roms. You could try to hack out the "offensive" graphics from the roms yourself though. I think it is much easier just to not download the ones you find objectionable in the first place. You could also simply comment out the drivers for those games that you find offensive and compile your own X-free version of Mame. This would make it a bit more difficult for the child to get to the material. Even this will not prevent a child that is determined to see them. I would suggest you instill good values into your children. Also I see a lot of parents playing the "do as I say not as I do" game with their kids. I don't believe in that. I believe parents are guides and examples to their children. I try to live my life accordingly. Also understand children (and parents) make mistakes. We are all human.
