: Hi, about halfway through in making apc to jamma cab I cut open a VGA monitor cable with the purpose to find the right ones (red, green blue etc) and connect to a jamma fingerboard. Well, what do you know, I canīt seem to find out what the different cables do! Iīve identified red, green and blue, then thereīs a black and a white cable that I think is horizontal and vertical sync, and then a yellow and a brown cable, and I think these may just be monitor id. Any thoughts on my findings? Any help is appreciated!

Do NOT trust the color of the insulation of the wires inside. Get yourself a copy of the pinout for a vga cable. You should take a multimeter, set it on continuity check (goes beep when the probes touch). Touch one probe to a wire at the cut end of the cable and then touch each pin on the connector with the other probe until you get a beep. Make sure to label each wire with which pin number it connects to. After labeling all the wires and comparing them to the pinout you will know the actual wires for each thing. I have seen vga cables where the wire colors were not even close to the "right" places. If yours happens to be exactly as the insulation count yourself lucky. It is best to be sure.
