Original Slot A Athlons do suffer from slow cache, but the new socket chips have taken care of this.

Athlon Floating Point Math functions are faster, just not used much in this type of program.

That is the problem. Most compilers are targeted for Intel (as they are standard for x86). AMD has not been much help as a few of us have asked them for AMD optimised compilers, and have gotten no response.
