Shift functions and saving cfg's with AMAME and AOS?

I am just beginning to use AdvancedMame on my NTSC horizontal arcade monitor. I use AOS as my frontend and my OS is win98se dos (bootgui=0).

I like AdvancedMame but for some reason I can't get the shift functions working. I had the player 1 shift functions (not player 2 unfortunately) working when I used vanilla mame but now with AMame I can't get any of them to work. I have shift1+2=esc enabled and that doesn't work either. Has anyone with this combination of software been able to get the shift functions working in AMame/AOS?

Please don't tell me to buy an I-PAC, I'm sure it's a good encoder but I already spent a bunch of dough on a KE72-T. ;-)

Another problem I have is saving video settings. If I run AdvancedMame's mm.exe frontend I can successfully save video resolutions, effects, etc. But, when I try to do the same when using AOS, the .cfg is written to the drive but the next time I load the game in question, the settings are lost.

I want to thank the folks on this board for getting me as far along as I am now. I have more to do, but my problems are getting smaller and smaller.
