Assigning Mouse Movement in MAME (DOS)

Am running Mame (DOS) 37b4 in a DOS box under WIN98 with a serial mouse.

In centipede, P1 Up is assigned to "UP or J1 Stick Y+" and P1 Right is assigned to "Right or J1 Stick X-", mouse movements are not mentioned, however, moving the mouse moves the player.

In IKARI warriors, P1 Up is assigned to "UP or J1 Stick Y+", P1 Right is assigned to "Right or J1 Stick X-", and Dial 1 is assigned to "Z or X". Moving the mouse horizontally changes the Dial 1 (Player 1 rotation) position. Moving the mouse vertically doesn't affect anything.

From the TAB menu, selecting INPUTS and pressing ENTER after a control, I can press a mouse button and it will register as "MOUSE B1" but moving the mouse is not registered.

What I would really like is for MOUSE X-axis to map to DIAL 1 and MOUSE Y-axis to map to DIAL 2. This would be lousy for normal gameplay, but great for two optical joysticks hooked through the opti-pac plus (when its available).

Any suggestions?
