What screws up the trackball ( & Spinner ) response is the mouse acceleration setting. It should be set to 0. Unfortunately, setting it in the windows driver doesn't seem to impact response under dos apps, so to get accurate trackball and spinner response I run the games that need it under mame32.

I'm sure there is a way to do the same thing under pure dos provided you can find a dos mouse driver that gives you access to that setting. But even then I don't know if it would work properly for dos mame running under windows.

Ideally, the mouse response should be linear. That way you can adjust the sensitivity from within mame on a game by game basis and get accurate control for each game.

I worked this out by spending a few hours in an arcade playing Arkanoid, then going home & trying to get identical control on the cabinet.
