Saw the message thread and decided I should offer some info!

The Y splitter is wired so that the x & y axes from the 2nd stick are recognised ans such, but also 'reroutes' the 2 buttons from this stick as buttons 3&4. The gameport will only recognise 4 buttons in total - any more on joystick 1 are ignored as they are not connected via the splitter cable.

Have a look at my website in about 12 hours - I am updating it to show a new product which works around this problem - it provides 4 buttons to J1, by using an isolator switch.
