>: I've never used an optical rotary stick so I don't know how they handle.
Me neither, just what I've read here.
>Are they like a spinner or do they have preset locking positions somewhat like the rotary switch sticks? How about sensitivity, like accidently triggering a rotation while not intended?
From previous posts, picture a happs super joystick with a spinner mechanism on the bottom. Rotation is very stiff, no free wheeling like a spinner and for tempest and such you have to set the sensitivity to max (255)
>I'm asking for anyone's reviews of using optical joysticks in the arcade or otherwse, so that those people looking to use rotary sticks including myself, can assess the benefits over a rotary switch type.
There are lots of comments on this board. Search for rotary on the current and archives. I was considering using the optical rotarys on my main panel and eliminating the spinner panel and the rotary joystick panel. According to the board, they will work fine as an 8-way joystick, but lousy as a spinner.
: Overall, I think I would still like to have the >LS30 type kicking around for authenticity if I >do ever use an optical assembly.
I agree, that 12-click feel is unique. I was not knocking your product in my previous post. Magnet Eye mentioned using an Opti-Pac and a trackball and not wanting to add a third circuit board. For him, the opto-rotary sticks seemed like a better option. If someone wants the true LS30 feel, yours is the ONLY interface I've seen and it seems to be very well thought out.
