Anyone ever hack PSX controller? NEED HELP w/Joystick!!!!

I am having problems. For some reason, my solder is not sticking down to the PCB of the psx controller. I have tried a couple times. Is there a specific type of solder I should use? And also, on the microswitches ... do I solder to the 2 gold switches? or one to the gold, and one to the silver. Someone please help!!!
